I don’t know about you, but black and white was and still is a very dear game for me. The first one was amazing for the time and the second was even more amazing for the time (at least for me). The game allowed me to be creative and have the experience of a god like no other god games.
Does it matter what happened to Black and White
You might wonder why does it matter and it should be very obvious. The first game was so good that it was declared the game of the year in 2001… and now we lost it. Isn’t it sad? I have played some of the recent god games and I gotta say: you can’t compare them at all. Even though you couldn’t do EVERYTHING in the Black and White series, you could still do a lot more than today’s god games.
You had control over your followers and you could do whatever you wanted. Your temple, hand, and land would change appearance depending on how good or evil you were. Doesn’t that sound nice? You decided how to treat your followers and how to spread the word of your existence to other tribes. Force, or by peaceful miracles. You could do it your way. You could battle other gods and you even had your army (in the 2nd game at least). Did you want to burn an entire village? You could do that. You wanted to punish your faithful creature if it wasn’t doing what you wanted? You could also do that. Also, the creature would change appearance depending on how good or bad it was.
So What Happened
Basically the video-game developers Lionhead Studios haven’t got a good game out on the market for some time. They were focusing on the Fable series and their partnership with Microsoft wasn’t working that well. So Lionhead Studios had to close.
In my honest opinion, if someone continued on the Black and White series with a 3rd game, it would be a hit. Of course, they would need to make the game to have the same features as the previous games, better graphics, multiplayer and of course, new features. It would be hard, but not impossible. These days we have a lot more gamers than before so it should be picked up quite easily by anyone.
