We all know that EA did a pretty horrible job with their latest title Star Wars Battlefront 2. It’s not necessarily that their game was bad… it’s because they were greedy and tried to sell different versions of the game at a higher price while also having microtransactions in game.

Now as far as I know, even though they removed microtransactions at launch, they still did add them back eventually. So that shows you how much EA cares about customers. After all that backlash, they still implemented microtransactions back anyways. I can kind of understand them, but at the same time, it isn’t a good strategy if you plan to have good publicity and make more money in the long run. Microtransactions are only a temporary solution for such a game.

Rumors

After all these events it seems quite logical that Disney/Lucasfilm wasn’t that happy with EA’s strategy. So rumors started regarding the rights for Star Wars being pulled from EA. Actually, I can say with 90% certainty that this happened/will happen. So what does this mean for the future of Star Wars games? Well, it’s pretty simple. Other game publishers will have the chance of making Star Wars games.

It seems that Ubisoft and Activision are the first options according to Cinelinx. Although in my opinion, they should look for other game publishers. Ubisoft seems to have a reputation for promoting a game and showing great graphics… but when it’s delivered, it looks way worse. Activision may not be that bad, but their most successful franchise isĀ  Call of Duty which has had its highs and lows. It’s true that they also did games like Spider-Man and transformers, but I personally don’t find them too appealing.

Conclusion

So all of that being said, I do hope that Disney/Lucasfilm will find a better replacement for EA and I am feeling hopeful for the Star Wars franchise because it is one of the first games I have played and the movies are also awesome.
